Here is the most critical piece of advice for any Raptor 700 owner performing intake modifications: you must add a fuel controller. Removing the airbox lid and installing a K&N filter increases airflow dramatically, which leans out the air-fuel mixture. Running a lean engine generates excessive heat, causing detonation, melted pistons, and valve damage. A quality fuel controller like a Power Commander, Dynojet, or Vortex unit adjusts the fuel map to inject more fuel, restoring the proper air-fuel ratio. Many controllers come with pre-loaded maps specifically designed for the intake lid removal and K&N filter combination, making the tuning process straightforward. Without this crucial step, you are essentially sabotaging your engine's reliability and wasting the potential of the intake mods.
