A cervical speculum is a tool that was developed in the 1800s and is still used by OB/GYNs today. It is often made of plastic or medical-grade material. The removal of foreign bodies from body cavities can also be accomplished with the use of other types of speculums, such as the nasal variety; however, this will not be the subject of our discussion. The pediatric, Pederson, Graves and disposable vaginal speculum are the three most common varieties of cervical speculums.
