Durga Ashtami wishes in English One of the auspicious days of the Durga Puja festival is Maha Ashtami. In 2022, October 3 is the date. It occurs on the dazzling lunar fortnight Ashtami tithi of the Hindu calendar's Aswina month. Some places have the belief that on this day, Goddess Chamunda manifested from Devi Durga's forehead and destroyed Chanda, Munda, and Raktabija. On Maha Ashtami, adoration is offered to the 64 Yoginis and Ashta Shakti, also known as the matrikas (the eight fierce forms of Goddess Durga).
