President Bashar al-Assad has promised safety and assistance to the Druze minority in Syria in the wake of a string of Israeli airstrikes targeting the southern region. Concern has been raised by the Israeli attacks, which are said to have targeted Iranian-backed militias and arms shipments close to the Golan Heights.
