Healthcare professionals understand that reusable tools must be cleaned, disinfected, and sterilized, yet cross-contamination is still a possibility. Wherever possible, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that practitioners use single use instruments and supplies. According to the organization, “the use of disposable devices improves patient safety by lowering the possibility of infection transfer from patient to patient.” This risk is eliminated when disposable devices are used. Because disposable devices are removed immediately after use, there is little possibility of infection spreading from one patient to another.
