On the basis of Type, AEDs can be semi-automated or fully automated. Semi-automated defibrillators evaluate the heart’s rhythm, and if an aberrant cardiac rhythm that requires a shock is identified, the device urges the user to click a button to give a defibrillation shock. They analyze the heart’s rhythm, and if an abnormal heart rhythm is detected that requires a shock, then the device prompts the user to press a button to deliver a defibrillation shock.
