Zalman Bernstein, Paul P. Bernstein, Shepard D. Osherow, Roger Hertog, and Lewis A. Sanders initially co-founded Sanford C. Bernstein & Company. When the investment management division of Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette, Inc. and the investment advising division of Moody’s Investor Services, Inc. amalgamated, Alliance Capital was established in 1971.
