Several countries have recently announced plans to help Qatar secure the Football World Cup 2022. Swiss arms exports rose by more than 40% to $524 million in the first half of this year after sales of air defence systems were completed with Qatar for $162 million, the Swiss economy ministry said. Qatar, Botswana, Germany, Denmark and Saudi Arabia were the top five buyers of Swiss weapons. Armoured vehicles were purchased from Botswana and Denmark, as well as ammunition and accessories from Germany. Security assistance during the Football World Cup NATO recently announced that it will assist Qatar with security measures during the Qatar Football World Cup, as part of the alliance's close cooperation with Doha. Support will include training against threats posed by chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) materials, which will be provided by Slovakia and NATO's Joint CBRN Defense Center of Excellence in the Czech Republic.
