The University of York has the earliest roots in 1617 when James I was presented with a petition for a university. From there, it was a series of other discussions that eventually led to Olivia Sheldon pushed the agenda further. Finally, in 1963, the University of York opened its doors with 230 students. Initially, there were 28 academic and administrative staff members working across six departments. After that, the educational institution was able to achieve excellence in various fields.
