In this, the restaurant drivers raised the issue of a long list of licensing and said that about 35 types of licenses are required to run a restaurant. The CM then ordered all departments to abolish unlicensed licenses for the restaurant industry. On the orders of the Chief Minister, the process of voluntary permitting of standalone restaurants implemented by the tourism department has been scrapped. Prior to June 2003, the scheme of approving restaurants across the country was implemented by the Union Ministry of Tourism. However, the scheme was discontinued across the country on 30 June 2003 and the states were asked to formulate and implement their own guidelines if they wanted to implement the scheme.
