Some bleeding or blood-tinged saliva during the first 24 hours after a tooth extraction is normal. Biting firmly on clean gauze for 20–30 minutes, keeping your head elevated, and avoiding vigorous rinsing, spitting, smoking, straws, or strenuous activity can help the blood clot form and protect the extraction site. If you experience heavy bleeding that doesn't stop after applying firm pressure, or if bleeding continues for an extended period, contact your dentist immediately for evaluation.
