A knocked-out permanent tooth is a dental emergency, but acting quickly can greatly improve the chances of saving it. Hold the tooth by the crown not the root gently rinse it if dirty, and try to place it back into the socket. If that's not possible, keep it moist in milk or saliva and see a dentist immediately, ideally within 30–60 minutes. Never reinsert a knocked-out baby tooth.
