Most UAE residents are unaware that a new inheritance law has fundamentally altered how their assets are dispersed upon their death. If you are an expat professional, a property owner, a business shareholder, or an NRI who uses Dubai as a wealth hub, this directly affects you. Federal Decree-Law No. 51 of 2024 is currently effective. If you die in the UAE without a documented will and no local heirs can be identified, the courts will freeze your UAE-based assets and eventually transfer them to a state-managed charity fund known as a Waqf.
