Preventive maintenance has always been the backbone of fleet operations. Stick to service intervals. Change fluids on time. Inspect key components regularly. For years, this approach has helped fleets reduce breakdowns and extend vehicle life. But today, that alone is not enough. Modern fleets operate in a very different environment. Vehicles run longer routes, face tighter delivery timelines, and deal with rising cost pressure. At the same time, expectations around uptime and compliance have increased. The result is simple. Preventive maintenance is still necessary, but it is no longer sufficient on its own.
