In Ireland, the Medicinal Products (Prescription and Control of Supply) Regulations 2003, and subsequent amendments, indicate that a prescription is only valid if it is issued by a registered medical practitioner. This includes a doctor registered with the Irish Medical Council (IMC) or a registered nurse prescriber under the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI). The consultation method — whether in person, by video, or by structured questionnaire — does not determine the prescription’s validity.
