Remote and hybrid work has done far more than change where employees log in. Across the UK, they have fundamentally altered how illness, absence, and recovery are understood in the modern workplace. Policies built around office attendance and physical visibility are no longer fit for a workforce operating from home offices, shared spaces, and flexible schedules. For both employers and employees, the question has shifted. It is no longer simply “Are you in the office or not?” but “What does being unwell look like in a remote-first working culture?”
