India's largest fort, Mehrangarh Fort, dates back to the mid-1400s. Encircled by substantial, commanding walls, the fort soars 400 feet above the city below. Many palace chambers have been kept in their original condition, allowing visitors to see them as the Jodhpur royal family formerly used them. The fort is home to a plethora of other fascinating items, such as antique turbans, swords, and even East India Trading Company coins. Nowadays, a large number of the palace rooms serve as museums. An entire room is devoted to vintage elephant riding chairs! The Blue City of Jodhpur is best viewed from Mehrangarh Fort and if you wish to take this breathtaking view you must contact the best taxi service in Jodhpur. Rudyard Kipling believed this fort had to be "the work of giants and magicians" when he first saw it.
