The 49ers will still enjoy NFL rules that allow 16 players to participate in training classes, including up to six veterans with unspecified cumulative seasons. Predicting that an NFL team's regular season lineup will open this year requires a huge caveat. The same lineup can look very different from week one to the end of the regular season. The same goes for the practice team, although there is understandably much less attention for this development/reserve team. Heading into 2022, Kyle Shanahan, head coach of the San Francisco 49ers, already faced some tough choices about how he would build his original 53-man roster in Week 1. And with the Niners having to reduce their current 90-man squad to 85 players ahead of their second game of the season, this game is against the Minnesota Vikings. Shanahan has already started thinking about which players aren't good enough in the regular-season group but can be considered a player worthy of a practice team. He may be looking for similar results from someone like Jauan Jennings, who spent his 2020 rookie season with the practice team before becoming a solid offensive contributor the following year.
