Connecticut had the highest per capita personal income of any state in 2013, estimated at $60,847. However, there is a significant income disparity throughout the state; after New York, Connecticut had the second-largest gap in the country between the average incomes of the top 1% and the average incomes of the bottom 99 percent. According to a 2013 study by Phoenix Marketing International, Connecticut had the third-highest percentage of millionaires per capita in the United States, at 7.32 percent. With a per capita income of $85,459, New Canaan is the wealthiest town in Connecticut. Darien, Greenwich, Weston, Westport, and Wilton have per capita incomes of more than $65,000 as well. Hartford is Connecticut’s poorest municipality, with a per capita income of $13,428 in 2000.
