The human heart has four valves that keep blood flowing in the specified direction. The four heart valves in the human body include the mitral valve, tricuspid valve, pulmonary valve, and aortic valve. Each heart valve has flaps that open and close once during each heartbeat. Heart valve disease is a condition when one or more of the valves in the heart don’t open or close properly, and this can disrupt the blood flow through the heart.
