The environment of commercial lending in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) has been fundamentally shattered. For many years, taking a stroll down City Centre Drive in Mississauga or into downtown Toronto’s financial sector to see a manager of a tier one bank would be the norm for gaining business financing. Nowadays, this approach is becoming a non-starter. Recent statistics have shown a clear change in the way things used to be, as roughly 76% of SMEs operating in the GTA do not use traditional commercial banks for funding anymore.
