On November 27, the two giants of European football will meet in Group E. Spain vs Germany will likely decide who tops Group E. But Japan and Costa Rica may offer curveballs. Germany will try to reverse the poor showings at major events in recent years. Meanwhile, Spain will try to regain the success they enjoyed 10 to 15 years ago. Luis Enrique's recent performance shows they are on the right track. Euro 2020 semi-final (lost to eventual winner Italy on penalties) and Nations League finalist 2020-21, 2-1 loss to France. Nice to be in the mix. The Qatar FIFA World Cup 2022 could see some form of Spanish revival. Germany has also been disappointed by the biggest podium since Rio de Janeiro hosted the 2014 World Cup. Expect them to do everything they can to turn things around. Germany finished second in the group stage, losing to Croatia but beating Poland and Austria. In the knockout stage, they defeated Portugal in the quarter-finals and Turkey in the semi-finals. Spain led the group with three consecutive wins over Russia, Sweden and Greece, before beating Italy in the semifinals to meet Russia again. In the end, Liverpool's Fernando Torres scored in the 33rd minute to separate the two sides.
