The Ministry of Commerce and Industry, through the Department of Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, has issued the “Household, Commercial and Similar Electrical Appliances Safety (Quality Control) Regulations, 2024,” to improve consumer safety and product compliance. The order states that the household, commercial, and similar electrical appliances with rated voltage not exceeding 250V single phase alternating current or 415V three phase alternating current must be BIS certified as per IS 302 (Part 1): 2008. Failure to comply with this order will be punishable under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
