Mining behemoth Rio Tinto Limited (ASX:RIO) is finally riding the green revolution wave. Through a media release on 7 April, the Anglo-Australian miner unveiled the commencement of battery-grade lithium production from waste rocks at Boron Plant in California. The news from the world's second-largest miner comes at the time when the US is aggressively promoting the use of electric vehicles (EVs) to curb carbon emissions. The world's largest economy is eyeing to achieve its 2050 carbon-neutral goal and reduce its reliance on China for rare earth elements and other metals used in the manufacturing of EV batteries.
