The institute was born out of the educational vision of St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara (educationist and social reformer). Christ made its humble beginning as Christ College with 4-programs, 379 candidates, 28 teaching, and non-teaching staff. Christ University began offering multiple postgraduate programs starting from 1990.
