Commonly known as Maca or Peruvian ginseng, Lepidium meyenii is an herbaceous plant that belongs to the Brassicaceae family. Native to the Andes of Peru, it is found in a variety of colours and cultivated as a root vegetable. A highly nutritious plant, Maca root is rich in amino acids such as leucine, arginine, phenylalanine, lysine, glycine, alanine, valine, isoleucine, glutamic acid, serine, and aspartic acid. Maca root is a good source of antioxidants with low fat content and high fibre.
