Writ meaning in legal world is an order by a higher court to the lower court or courts directing them to do something or stop them from doing something. The Indian Constitution provides for five types of writs - Habeas Corpus, Mandamus, Prohibition, Certiorari. Prohibition and Quo Warranto. It can be filed in either High Court (Article 226) or Supreme Court (Article 32)
