What is Pilonidal Sinus? A pilonidal sinus (PNS) is a small tunnel hole in the skin around the anus. A pilonidal abscess usually contains debris, dirt, and hair follicle in the intergluteal cleft. If not treated, it causes an infection from the anus to the bottom of the spine and becomes a chronic condition this leads to abscesses (cyst) and also the formation of sinus cavities. After infection commonly presents as discharging pus or fluid and intermittently painful sinus in the sacrococcygeal region and have a foul odor and present as a swollen and erythematous region. A PNS is most commonly seen in males and young adults.
