Traveling is an adventure that begins when you enter the airport. But what if you have only traveled by car, train or bus before, and everything related to checking in for a flight scares you? We tell you where to go and how to check in for a flight if you are at the airport for the first time.
First time at the airport. What documents should I take with me?

1. Passport for international flights and ID or passport for domestic flights. Be sure to check if your passport will be valid when you return. They usually ask for a document valid for six months.

It is better to send a copy of your passport by mail to yourself and your loved ones: you will need it in case of theft or loss of the document.
For a child, you will need to take a birth certificate for domestic flights, a passport for international flights, and a power of attorney if he or she is flying without parents.

2. Ticket. Many airlines check you in using your passport details, but it's better to print out your ticket for peace of mind. Previously, you could check in for a flight 24 hours before departure, but now this option is almost unavailable. A ticket does not guarantee boarding. To be guaranteed to board, you need to get a boarding pass. Read on to find out how to get one.
3. Cash (preferably dollars or euros). Yes, technically these are not documents, but you need to have them. For example, to pay for a visa upon arrival at the airport.

In some countries, you may be required to provide additional documents. For example, a return ticket to prove that you will not stay in the country. The ticket does not necessarily have to be to Kazakhstan, you can buy one to any other country. Some places may require cash (for example, in Thailand - 10 thousand baht per person), a special certificate (for example, a HES code for Turkey), and so on. Carefully read the rules for entering the country so as not to run into problems at the border.
Singapore Airlines, Emirates and Qatar Airways may require the bank card you used to pay for your ticket. Try to pay for your ticket with your own card to avoid problems at check-in.
How much time should I arrive at the airport?
Check-in closes one hour before departure, and boarding closes 15 minutes before departure. How early you need to arrive depends on your check-in type. If you checked in online, you can arrive one and a half to two hours before departure. If you need to check in at the counter, arrive two and a half to three hours before departure.
What do you need to know in advance to avoid being late?

• How far is the airport and how long does it take to get there? Be sure to consider how long the journey will take, given the time of day. As a rule, it will be faster to get there by bus. Choose this option if all your things are packed in hand luggage and public transport is operating at this time.
• Which terminal are you flying from? This information is provided on your ticket. If the terminals are far apart, you will need to allow extra travel time.

Don't miss boarding: it starts 40 minutes before departure and ends 25-30 minutes before departure.
You have passed the security check. Ahead are the Duty Free shops, cafes and recreation areas. Before you dive into the world of souvenirs and elite perfumes, take another look at your boarding pass: it shows the boarding time or boarding till. Also, look at the departure board: have there been any changes to your flight, has the boarding gate number changed? We recommend that you find the right gate or at least get your bearings, and then calmly spend the remaining time strolling through the shops in the sterile zone.

It is better to take off your headphones, put them on after takeoff. The change of your flight may be announced over the loudspeaker, and it may happen right before boarding - for example, the gate number may urgently change, and you will be waiting for boarding to begin at the previous gate. This is a common case. It is quite possible that in this situation you will be personally called over the loudspeaker and asked to immediately go to the right gate.
Go through the boarding process

If not, join the general queue and have your passport and boarding pass ready. Boarding an airplane can occur in one of three ways:

• via the jet bridge (this is a corridor-“sleeve” that leads from the gate directly to the plane parked nearby),
• by boarding bus (it will wait for you at the boarding gate and take you directly to the plane's steps - this is for those cases when the plane is not parked right next to the terminal, but further away, and the jet bridge cannot be extended to it),
• on foot (yes, in a small airport you will be asked to simply walk from the gate to the plane along the street and up the steps).

Well, the fact that on a plane you need to go to your row and take the seat indicated on your boarding pass is clear to you anyway. If you want to change seats, be sure to ask the flight attendant for permission. Many airlines do not allow changing seats.
