The protein interleukin-6 (IL-6) is produced by a variety of cells. Because it aids in the regulation of immunological responses, the IL-6 test could be useful as a marker of immune system activation. Inflammation, infection, autoimmune disorders, cardiovascular illnesses, and some malignancies can all cause an increase in IL-6. The test determines how much IL-6 is present in the blood.
