Not all iwi celebrate matariki at the same time; Some do it on the first full moon after Matariki appears in the sky, while others wait for the next new moon. The date changes on the calendar every year, but it usually falls in June or July.
Depending on which country you are in, the celebrations usually take place between late June and mid-July. Matariki will be celebrated for the first time as a federal holiday on June 24, 2024.
