Nerve damage after a dental injection is rare, but it can happen. Symptoms may include persistent numbness, tingling, burning, altered taste, or an electric shock-like sensation affecting the lips, tongue, chin, or gums after the anesthetic should have worn off. Most cases improve on their own within weeks or months, but persistent or worsening symptoms should be evaluated promptly. Early diagnosis and follow-up can help support recovery and rule out more serious complications.
