Most of us believe that as long as we can see clearly, we don't need to have our eyes checked on a regular basis. We occasionally go to an optician to get a pair of glasses and believe that this is sufficient for our eye health. The reality is quite different, as most vision-threatening diseases have no symptoms in the early stages and cannot be detected by a refractive error test. Ophthalmologists perform eye exams when you visit an ophthalmology hospital, and they include not only checking your visual acuity and the power of your glasses, but also the overall health of your eyes. It includes measuring your eye pressure, aligning your eyes, and evaluating the cornea, lens, and retina.
