Mineral insulated cable (MI cable) is a special kind of cable. Made of copper conductors, enclosed by an insulating metal sheath, and made of corrosion-resistant materials such as stainless steel or inconel. Inorganic magnesium oxide powder insulates the sheath (MgO). Inside the MI wire, there are wires separated and insulated by magnesium oxide powder.

In other words, MI cables are also called "metal insulated Metal sheathed" (MIMS) or "Mineral insulated copper cables (MICC). Colloquially, it is called pyro.
