High levels of bilirubin levels indicate abnormal breakdown of red blood cells (hemolysis) or improper functioning of the liver. It was concluded that in order to perform the bilirubin test, patients are asked to fast for several hours prior to the test. They are advised not to do strenuous workouts as it usually increases the level of bilirubin.
