Fashion Photography

Fashion photography is a specialized genre of photography that concentrates on showing different fashion items and clothing. In many cases, fashion photography consists of shots of specific clothing items or types of accessories for ad campaigns. More often fashion photography is best done for advertising campaigns of luxury items, such as evening wear, special occasion dresses, and so forth. The types of garments usually photographed include maternity wear, casual dresses, housewives, cocktail dresses, formal dresses, beachwear, and formal wear.

Fashion photographers must be familiar with all the technical aspects of photography, including film formats, image processing, software, and lighting. They should also possess the superb understanding and coordination skills, as well as artistic ability. These photographers are generally hired by fashion houses or magazines. However, some of them create their own styles and create a name for themselves in this field. They can work in color, black and white, and with any other photography type.

When it comes to fashion photography, a number of poses are usually required. The photographer should be able to plan out the poses, as well as coordinating the lighting, camera placement, and so forth. When it comes to catalog photography, the clothes or accessories for modeling should be arranged on a transparent background. Lighting should be soft and subtle, allowing sufficient natural light to capture the poses.
