Bradycardia (Low Heart rate) Bradycardia is a serious disorder in which the heart beats too slowly and is unable to supply the body with enough oxygen-rich blood. You may experience dizziness, exhaustion, or weakness, as well as shortness of breath. Bradycardia can develop without presenting any signs or symptoms. A sluggish heart rate isn't always a sign that something is wrong. In certain people, notably healthy young adults and trained athletes, a resting heart rate of 40 to 60 beats per minute is considered typical during sleep. If bradycardia is severe, a pacemaker implanted in the heart may be necessary to maintain a normal heartbeat.
