Frustrated with scratchy wool shirts, creator Benjamin Russell's child decided to replace them have something lighter and more pleasant. Russell Sr. took his son's concept to his father, who turned it into an actuality, and Russell Athletic was created. The renowned crew neck sweatshirt were first produced at the Russell Athletic mills in 1930, recognizing the strength and convenience of cotton.
