The Barong Tagalog--often simply referred to as "Barong"--dates back to pre-colonial Philippines. Early forms of the garment were made from lightweight fabrics derived from local plant fibers, such as banana (abaca), pineapple (pina), and jusi. These textiles were highly prized for their breathability in the tropical climate and their elegant appearance.
