After registering a thumping win in the first ODI, the Indian Cricket Team suffered a massive loss in the second ODI, which England won convincingly that too more than six overs in hand. While they had posted over 300 runs on the board, it was their bowlers who failed in the middle and conceded plenty of runs.
However, all-rounder Hardik Pandya wasn't given a chance to bowl which made many surprised too. In the post-match press conference, the captain Virat Kohli made it clear that he wasn't given the ball as they needed to manage Pandya's workload management.

But former India opener Virender Sehwag said that Hardik Pandya can at least bowl 3-4 overs, like he did in the T20I series as well. "At least to make a change, Hardik Pandya could have been given a spell of 3-4 overs. I don't understand if he can bowl four overs in T20I cricket, then why cannot he do the same in ODI cricket," Sehwag asked on Cricbuzz.

Pandya had to undergo back surgery a couple of years ago and since then he has not been bowling consistently. Even, he didn't bowl in the last year's Indian Premier League too which took place in the UAE in November. And, Kohli explained why Hardik Pandya didn't bowl as well.

"If he only wants to play as a batsman, then say that he will only play as a batsman in ODI cricket, so then his performance will be assessed accordingly. Because as an allrounder you sometimes get an advantage, that if you are unable to perform with the bat on one day, then you performed with the ball. Or vice-versa. But if he is not going to ball, then he will only be assessed as a batsman. So, I am little disappointed that Pandya did not bowl a single over. If he is fit, he can bowl four overs in T20Is, so he could have bowled a couple of overs. If he had got a breakthrough, it would have helped the team," he further added.
