Adams Express Company Login Alvin Adams, a fruit trader who had lost everything in the Panic of 1837, started delivering letters, small goods, and valuables for customers between Boston and Worcester, Massachusetts, in 1839. Burke, his initial business partner, soon withdrew, and Adams quickly expanded his domain to include New York City, Philadelphia, and other eastern cities under the name Adams & Company. He had made significant inroads into the South by 1847, and by 1850 he was transporting goods to St. Louis through stagecoach and rail.
