550D or Fe 550D TMT is a grade of thermo mechanically treated steel bars as defined by IS: 1786. ‘Fe’ is the symbol of iron, and D stands for ductility. 550 N/mm^2 is the minimum yield stress in MPA required to bring about an elongation, i.e., the maximum strength of the steel bars. This means that Fe 550D TMT steel bars from top rated TMT steel bar manufacturers have a high tensile strength.
